Beard oil is a "leave in" conditioner. That's all it is. It is not meant for styling or hold. And that's fine - beard oil is the best thing to come along for your beard since... well... the trash can that you threw your razor into. Beard Balm

Beard balm is also a "leave in" conditioner. But a good balm contains natural bees wax and butters, such as Shea and Cocoa. The wax and butters add to the conditioning properties, but also offer styling hold.

Can you use them both at the same time?

Yes! Apply your oil first, and then put a small amount of balm on the "top" of your beard to help hold it in place. Usually, you should decrease the amount of oil you use when you do this - you don't want an oily mess in your beard from applying too much.

And that's it. It's that simple. It's hard to screw up when it comes to beard care. Use one or the other, or use both. You'll figure out what works best for your beard.
